Calendar Classes begin in
August when regular school classes begin and run through May, ending just
before Memorial Day. Click here for annual calendar. Hours Monday/Wednesday and Tuesday/Thursday sessions are offered with an optional Friday class available. Maximum class size is 20 students per session.
8:30 - 11:00 AM: 25 weeks 8:30 - 1:00 PM: 8 weeks (hot lunch program begins) 8:30 - 2:00 PM: 2 weeks 8:30 - 3:00 PM: 1 week SONshine Preschool's progressive hours for the two day per week session equal 260 hours per year. The additional Friday class will not be progressive, but rather keep the 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. hours for the entire year. It will meet the first and third Fridays of each month. SONshine Preschool feels these progressive hours will better prepare students for all-day kindergarten. Typical
classroom schedule 8:30 - 9:00 AM: Free Choice Play The children are free to choose from a variety of activities set out around the room. Teachers interact with the children's play. 9:00 AM: Group Time Each child has a designated carpet square to sit for group devotions, singing, and a Bible story. A leader for the day does the weather calendar and "Show and Tell." 9:20 - 9:40 AM: Large Motor Skills/Recess Time (outdoors if weather permits or else in the gym) 9:45 - 10:00: Snack Time 10:00 AM: Story Time Directions will be given for craft time to follow. 10:15 AM: Craft
Time The class is divided into two groups where one does the
craft and the other selects from a variety of activities. They
switch mid-way through the time frame. Clean-up follows these
activities. 11:00 AM: Music or Small Group Activity 11:30 AM: Closing We gather back on our carpet squares for closing prayer and a dismissal song after which we are dismissed as parents come in. A 1:00 PM dismissal brings hot lunch time, a noon recess with grades K-2 of Oskaloosa Christian School, a short rest time and extra activity or craft time as needed. The 2:00 and 3:00 PM dismissals bring extended time frames for some of our activities and an afternoon recess, much the same as a regular elementary school day. |
