November Penny Count

November is our service project month. For the past three years we have been supporting the efforts of a Ugandan Orphanage to become more self-sufficient in their efforts to raise their own food supplies.  We have provided monies to purchase goats and chickens which help provide a renewable food source as well as a current food supply for the children housed in this orphanage.  We would like to continue this project again this year.  To do so, we are asking you to participate in a fun counting project throughout the month.
Pennies are a small coin which our children can readily identify.  We have asked you to bring pennies each day according to the counting activity listed on each calendar day.  This amount may seem trivial, but when we add all those pennies together, they provide a nice gift to help at the orphanage.  It is also a wonderful way for you and your child to practice counting together.  We also incorporate a way to let Grandmas and Grandpas help out. (see Nov. 28 & 29)  We bring the pennies to the bank each week and then mark on a graph how many we have collected. So we are not only providing a counting experience, but we are introducing graphing skills as well.
Please use this as a fun learning experience with your child as well as an opportunity to share from our resources with some much less fortunate.  Thank you for your help and have fun counting pennies!!

Bring pennies each day according to the following schedule:

Nov 7 & 8 … one penny for each tail feather you think a turkey has

Nov 9 & 10 … one penny for each stuffed animal in your house

Nov 14 & 15 … one penny for each letter in your entire name

Nov 16 & 17 … bring 20 pennies if you  like popcorn; 30 if you do not

Nov 21 & 22 … bring one penny for each shoe in your house

Nov 28 & 29 … bring pennies from your Grandparents home (Please ask first)

Nov 30 & Dec 1 … bring one penny for each door and window in your house
